Sanjay Leela Bhansali's small screen production plans are apparently in limbo. The filmmaker had announced last year that he was keen to make soaps as well due to the wide reach of television. As he had been a judge on two music reality shows, it had made him familiar with the world of TV. He also wanted to adopt the same approach as he has to his films -- making serials on a grand scale.
However, after months of planning and being in talks with channels, nothing has moved ahead.
Says a source, "For the past six months things have been in a 'work in progress' state but nothing has translated to reality. His production house was in talks with several actors like Jennifer Winget, Gautam Rode, Aamir Ali, Sanjeeda Sheikh but the shows never took off."
Adds the source, "He is too busy in his planning of films projects and his TV plans have gone haywire." Buzz was that Bhansali's name was garnering Rs 25 lakh per episode, when the normal budget is Rs 10-12 lakh for an episode. Due to him, channels were willing to hike the money per episode assigned to producers. They were giving him double of what they would offer to others. But after preliminary talks with leading channels, things did not gather steam.
Realising that there was big money on the small screen as well, he was keen to produce serials in his own styles to expand his production banner. His TV outfit also operated from his film production office in Juhu.
Bhansali remained unavailable for comment.
